Our handmade Bokken line offers high quality products to guarantee the best result of balance, weight and resistance. Each bokken is handmade choosing its wood with a lot of attention, avoiding the weak parts and the cracks, never using chemical products.
We therefore obtain a solid lasting product, completely natural.
We produce every kind of bokken for Katori Shinto Ryu, Itto Ryu, Iwama Ryu, Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, Togakure Ryu, Kashima Shinto Ryu, Kukishinden Ryu. The choice includes also Yari, Naginata, Bo, Jo, Hanbo and octagonal Bo, Jo, Hanbo. These are the kinds of woods we utilize:
Ash wood - This wood is incredibly hard and dense but not too heavy. It’s classified as Ironwood like the Lignum-vitae because they are both considered « as hard as iron »
Ash wood wood has a wonderful colour, whitish, and a reduced porosity that makes it humidity resistant. Its flexibility is excellent and after performing lots of tests we have observed that the impact resistance of this wood is second only to the one of the Lignum Vitae.
Beech wood – it’s heavier and harder comparing to the red oak wood, its surface is thick and uniform. The colour is light, veining is straight and there are only few knots. It’s quite flexible and its resistance to impact is better than the one of the red oak, being a very compact and firm wood.
Red oak – Very compact wood, solid and resistant, light red colour with great flexibility and good impact resistance
Walnut - Refined wood of medium hardness and not too heavy. Light Brown colour. Not too flexible but very light. It can have many knots.
Mahogany - Uniform and compact wood, really hard and resistant. Red/brown colour, quite heavy, suitable for big impacts
Lignum Vitae – One of the hardest and thickest wood in the world, known also as Ironwood. This wood is very compact, green/yellow colour and it has a great humidity and mould resistance. Its resistance to impact is impressive.
Wenge- dark-brown wood, very hard, compact and strong. Its resistance to humidity and impacts is very good
Teak –refined wood, very hard, stable and weather resistant, moreover it’s really light. It contains a natural resin that makes it extremely resistant to external agents. It’s one of the hardest and long-lasting wood in the world but it’s not suitable for big impacts, better use the bokkens made of teak wood for a single practice
Ebony- very refined wood, black colour with lighter parts, really hard and thick, not porous. It’s one of the few woods in the world, like the Lignum Vitae, that doesn’t float on the water. Very resistant to atmospheric agents and big impacts
